Flute, Practicing

Summer Rewards

Summer is known for extra activities like fun trips, vacations, camps, family reunions, carnivals and more. Sometimes it can be hard to practice your flute when your time is competing with so many events on your calendar.

That’s why an extra CONGRATULATIONS goes out to my flute and piano students who earned a summer practice treat. Way to go! Enjoy the end of summer and we’ll have some more fun and get back to work after school starts.

Ralph Waldo Emerson Quote

What is success?

  • To laugh often and much;
  • to win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children;
  • to earn the appreciation of honest critics and endure the betrayal of false friends;
  • to appreciate the beauty;
  • to find the best in others;
  • to leave the world a bit better, whether by a healthy child, a garden patch or a redeemed social condition;
  • to know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived.
  • This is to have succeeded!
Festivals, Flute

Festival Congratulations

Sending out huge congratulations to each of my students for performing last weekend at the Timpanogos Area Flute Federation Festival under the direction of the National Federation of Music Clubs. Each student had to perform two songs; one of which had to be memorized. All of my students received Superior ratings!! Way to go everyone, you did it!

This year two of my students earned their 15 point gold cup and one student earned a 30 point gold cup. Hooray! That takes 3 years and 6 years respectively of Superior ratings. Congratulations! That’s a lot of flute practicing.

It’s great to work really hard toward a performance and to have your efforts pay off in the moment when it counts. As a teacher, it’s rewarding to see each of my flute students progress and grow in their flute development on a weekly, monthly, and yearly basis. I’m proud of you for taking advantage of another performing opportunity to learn and grow. Keep up the good work everyone.

Bravo!!

Flute, Thoughts

What is Success?

Success is like an iceberg. People often only see what is above the water.

They forget about how much of that iceberg is below the water.

They don’t see or recognize the hard work, the failure, the persistence, the dedication, the sacrifice, the discipline, the criticism, the good habits, the courage and everything else it takes to get there.

Next time you wonder if you are successful, remember that you are doing better than you think you are. Whether it’s flute playing or anything other endeavor in life, as long as you keep trying to improve, as long as you pick yourself up and dust yourself off, as long as you don’t give up, you are being successful.
