Join the Utah Valley Symphony for an evening celebrating the 250th anniversary of America through three masterworks that reflect the nation’s history, character, and cultural identity. Featuring internationally acclaimed violinist Joanna Kurkowicz, Portraits of America brings together music that captures the imagination, energy, and ideals at the heart of the American experience.
Aaron Copland’s Lincoln Portrait offers a stirring musical portrait of American leadership and ideals, pairing Copland’s iconic orchestral writing with words from Abraham Lincoln. John Corigliano’s The Red Violin tells a sweeping story through richly colored orchestration and brilliant violin writing—a work of passion and virtuosity that showcases Kurkowicz’s extraordinary artistry. George Gershwin’s An American in Paris completes the program with its unmistakable energy, wit, and optimism, capturing the excitement of a changing America.
The program features former Governor Gary Herbert as narrator for Lincoln Portrait on October 22nd at the Covey Center for the Arts and Utah Valley University President Jon Anderson as narrator on October 23rd at the Noorda Center for the Performing Arts.
